Dear audience,

Welcome to the nineteenth edition of Steps! It is now over thirty years ago that Migros Culture Percentage first organized a nation-wide festival that brought the magic of contemporary dance to Switzerland. Steps 2024 will once again present the work of national and international dance companies in cooperation with countless partner theatres all across the country: from Chiasso to Basel and from Chur to Geneva – there shall be dance.

Across their different projects and activities, Adele and Gottlieb Duttweiler, the founders of Migros, always kept an eye on the common good. In keeping with this mission, Steps does more than simply bring dance to the people, no matter where they live; we also stand for diversity and inclusion – both on and beyond the stage – and continuously strive to make the festival more socially and ecologically sustainable.

Which stories ought to be told? For this edition of the festival, we selected productions whose stories and voices moved us. As a result, the program covers many pressing contemporary issues – developed and presented by dance’s most renown names, celebrated choreographers, and – as of yet – undiscovered talents. We invite you to dive into these stories and become immersed in their worlds.
