«Beyond» is an energetic and poetic performance for anyone aged six and over. Six performers test boundaries and ultimately overcome them together. Each of them is an expert in a different discipline – from dance to acrobatics to pole dancing. With the help of ladders of different sizes, they create a dynamic and unstable playing field for each other, which they explore together. The members of Circumstances dance, climb, float and risk everything in the choreography by Belgian Piet Van Dycke.
Together, they feel their way towards their individual and collective limits and playfully explore how far they can go.
The stage design plays a central role here: the ladders become exciting players but also a strong symbol of connection. In this way, «Beyond» addresses an important and omnipresent topic: how can bridges be built and borders dissolved?
Simply put: «Beyond» is a performance for the whole family. It’s about borders. The six performers come from different artistic backgrounds. Circus meets dance and acrobatics. The stage set consists of many ladders. The performers play and dance with them. They build bridges and overcome borders.

Piet Van Dycke is the artistic director of the multidisciplinary company Circumstances. The multi-talented Belgian not only studied maths but also has a degree in choreography. In his works, he combines contemporary dance with circus and playfully explores their boundaries. The recipe is paying off: ‘Circumstances’ is currently successfully touring the world with several productions. Picture © Jonas Vermeulen
